Choose Happy!

The other day I was thinking about my younger siblings. More specifically, I was thinking about how much I think about… and how their only concern is what they are doing for the next five minutes or what’s for dinner. They don’t even concern themselves with whether or not there will be dinner; they just know there will be. They can be arguing and fighting one second and hugging and laughing the next. They may be upset with you for making sure they eat their veggies but they will be saying “I love you.” as they head off to bed. Kids have this amazing ability to just… decide.

They decide that it is no longer worth it to be upset. They simply know that being angry or frustrated is not fun and that they much rather be happy and having fun. So, they move on. Of course, our feelings of hurt, sadness or anger are real and need to be properly addressed and handled.

“’26 Be angry, and do not sin’: do not let the sun go down on your wrath, 27 not give place to the devil.”

But, why do we keep clinging to something that we cannot change and only brings us misery? Why do we keep replaying over and over in our minds something that originally probably only lasted about five seconds and everyone else has (truly) moved on from by now… but, we continue to let it burden us?

The LORD was not just “giving an option/outlet” or doing what “friends do” when He told us to take it to Him in prayer (Philippians 4:6). He meant it (Matthew 11: 28). GOD is the only One we should seek after for our happiness; GOD is the only One who can love us as fully and selflessly as we desire. Take it from me… as soon as you realize that you simply don’t have to be angry or worried or upset anymore, your whole life changes.

Psalm 37: 4 New International Version  (NIV)

“Take delight in the LORD, and He will give you the desires of your heart.”

As soon as fear or worry or bitter thoughts start to creep in I immediately say a prayer. Because I know that is the enemy trying to get to me. I know that whenever I feel as though I’m having a “bad day” that it is no one else’s choice but my own to change it. I am so beyond blessed to have the beautiful life that I do and I know God’s arms are right there waiting for me to realize that.

Thank you Heavenly Father for being my comfort! Praise Your Holy name; amen!

The minute or hour or day will pass and joy will again fill your heart… if you let Him.

A very timely reminder after struggling with computer woes for hours … on a computer that God amazingly blessed me with for free, and that is perfectly suited for my needs! Thank you for the reminder to be grateful for all God has given me, and to choose joy rather than self-pity!
