This week I am going to use “Wordy Wednesday” To document our day as we prepare for Thanksgiving.
I love Thanksgiving… I would probably go as far as to say it’s my favorite holiday.
Now, of course, I love Christmas and Ressurection Day as well. But, there is just something about Thanksgiving…
The fresh, crisp, clean air, that smells like fireplaces and pumpkin spice. The warm cozy sweaters, the golden hues, the distinctly different autumn sunsets and the noticeable change in attitudes all around. Something just seems to soften a little… and if you slow down and listen long enough you can almost hear a still, small Voice whispering, “gather.”
On the other (less… poetic) hand while I love rainy days and sipping on various hot beverages next to flickering candles… I would appreciate a few extra hours of sunlight.
Aaaaanyway… let’s get to why you’re really here.
This year I believe we have roughly fifty guests coming.
I Timothy 6: 18 NKJV
“Let them do good, that they be rich in good works, ready to give, willing to share,”
We will have the usuals along with the famous family mustard jello (to pair with your ham of course). Along with Mama’s cranberry sauce and all of her other amazing edible love.
Today has already been quite productive. I got some duties done. Mama has already started and finished a photoshoot. Mr. Ed brought over some fancy Canadian instant coffee for tomorrow aaand,
Now, Miss Carol is here and it’s time to sew! I am so, so grateful for her taking the time out of her day to come and teach us. I have learned, and continue to learn, so much. Today I didn’t end up doing much sewing myself. But, I still enjoyed her company!
Oh, and guys!
I un-stuffed and re-stuffed my first turkey(s)!
It was messy and squishy and awesome! I had waaay too much fun doing it… and tomorrow I re-enter the meat eating world with said turkey.
We also prepped all of the sweet potatoes for tomorrow and Mattie and I went. to. town. on making some mini apple pies! (And yes, I will be sharing the recipe with you this upcoming “Sunday Funday!“) I love having baking buddies. Making memories while you make yummy, sugar and loved filled treats is preeeeetty high up on my favorites list.
The littles had leftover pizza for dinner. Because:
- They love pizza. And,
- Thanksgiving is tomorrow.
I finished up the last of the Bible verse table runners not too long ago and now everyone is winding down.
I don’t deserve the amazing life I have. But, I thank my LORD God for every day that He lets me live it.
One last thought before I roll into bed… (it is now 2:57am Thursday morning… but it’s still my Wednesday, so I feel like it counts) I just want to say that I pray that I always use Thanksgiving, above anything else, as a time to intentionally and truly thank my Heavenly Father for all that He has given me. For everything that I have in my life and all that I don’t…
To me Thanksgiving is more than just one day. It’s a time of gratitude… family… traditions… memory making… and thankfully giving. I pray that I may get better at selflessly serving others throughout the year. Using this season to inspire good works.
Happy Thanksgiving friend. I sure hope you have a good one full of family, friends, fun and food!
How could you bless someone this Thanksgiving season?
How do you prepare for Thanksgiving?
What is your favorite Thanksgiving tradition?
What is your favorite Thanksgiving dish?
Until next time; I pray your day, every day, is blessed.
