The super Christian answer.

Something I have been hearing a lot as of late, that has bothered me (and frankly hurts my heart) is people referring to certain things they say as the “super Christian” answer.

This bothers me for a couple of different reasons…

One of them being that the majority of people I hear saying it are Christians. Not only are they Christians but, they are in positions of public ministry. They are speakers or Youtubers who are answering questions for people who may, or may not, even be believers.

The first thing that they see?

People who claim to be Christian mocking their own family members.

…Maybe not the best first (second or even third) impression.

I this picture months ago now but I love that it just so happens to have a lighthouse and go with the verse so well. God cares about our details!

I’m not going to say these people aren’t “truly” Christian or are even purposefully mocking others. Because only God knows what’s in their hearts.

Everyone is at different levels of sanctification. Everyone is convicted in their own ways and at different times.

I am almost certain that there are things that I do that someone older and/or wiser may look at and question or have a different opinion on. But, I am 100% certain that I would want them to point it out to me. I would want to know if I was doing something I shouldn’t/how I could be doing better.

Flowers make me smile…

I think that this defensive precursor happens for two main reasons:

  1. People simply don’t notice it. They have grown up hearing everyone else around them talk this way so to them that’s just how you act, it’s something you say.
  2. They are trying to beat “the world” to it. If they just simply told you how they felt and what they believe that would leave them too exposed and they’d have no way of backing out once you started to throw verbal punches their way.

You know when you’re little and you make a comment about your new hair cut before anyone else can? I think that, sadly, for a lot of people it’s like that…

I really like how this picture turned out…

I watch these people who are hesitant when approaching a question, nervously laughing and smiling as they say, “I know this is a/the super Christian answer but,” become so sturdy and sure of their footing, their answers and beliefs once they actually start talking about and explaining them.

I just think it’s sad that they find that necessary to say at all…

I’m not perfect at it. There are things I haven’t said or written about yet because I’m not ready to/don’t know how… but, I’m not going to apologize for talking about my Heavenly Father the One True God and His truth.

I don’t know about you, but, I got tired of hearing so. much. fluff. And I appreciated it SO MUCH once someone was finally just, straight forward with me. Offering instruction and guidelines and constructive criticism without apologizing for their answer or beliefs before hand… so, I guess that’s what I hope to offer in return.

“Let no corrupt word proceed out of your mouth, but what is good for necessary edification, that it may impart grace to the hearers.” Ephesians 4: 29

If that makes my little online journal here unpopular that is just fine with me. God will bring it to whoever is supposed to hear it… if anyone. If one person reads something and is encouraged then I feel as though it’s served it’s purpose and my heart is full.

Have you heard the people around you saying this? What are your thoughts?

Have you ever found yourself saying this?

I challenge you (and myself) to be more aware of this in yourself and those around you. Knowing that the opinions of others is so very temporary; but, God’s judgment is eternal.

Until next time; I pray your day, every day, is blessed.

Wow. I have never heard that phrase used before, and I don’t recall using a similar phrase. Nevertheless, there have been times I have felt ashamed. Why? Because I didn’t explain my beliefs well? Because I wasn’t knowledgeable enough to answer the question or refute the argument? Or was it because my beliefs were unpopular and “offensive”? Thank you for this reminder to watch our words, and that we need never be ashamed of the Truth!
